College Profile
A legacy of faith, resilience, and excellence in higher education.
Background
The Asufü Christian Institute (ACI) inherited its name from the birthplace of Christianity in the region. The word ‘Asufü’ means ‘a migrated place’. The history of Asufü dates back to early 20th Century, when the first believers of Christian faith from Punanamei village, namely; Mikrü Lohrü, Kholi Puni, and Hrüpuni Ashükho, were driven out from their village because of their beliefs. These acolytes of the faith migrated to the place where ACI Stands today. Since then, the place came to be known as Asufü, signifying the refuge where the first seed of Christianity in the region took root.
Faith & Education
Later, the then village Deputy-Chief, Kahre Mathibo, who was also well known for his deep and shrewd knowledge of customary laws and practices, entreated them to return to the village on the condition that they would conform to the seven (7) main traditional genas observed by the community. Subsequently, the three emerged as pioneer evangelists who preached the Gospel of Christ among the Mao, Poumai, Maram and parts of Zeme communities in Senapati District. Along with Christian faith, modern education was brought to the region.
Establishment of ACI
Inspired by God, an ardent follower of the faith, Shri L Dikho, a noted entrepreneur, social worker and renowned politician - envisioned preserving the legacy of these pioneer Christians through the establishment of an Institution of Higher Education. Consequently, Asufii Christian Institute was established in 2010. The Institute began its academic journey with temporary affiliation to Manipur University (MU), granted on 11th May 2011 (No.MU/ASUFII-Affiliation/2011/CDC/424). Permanent affiliation was accorded on 4th January 2017 (No.MU/ASUFU/2011/CDC/Pt. I/460). Subsequently, the Institute was recognized by the University Grant Commission (UGC) Under Section 2(f) & 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956 (F.No.8-182/2017/CPP-1/C) on 25th July 2017.
Growth & Development
In its inaugural year, the college enrolled 203 students, out of which 125 were male and 78 were female under the guidance of 13 teaching faculty and 3 non-teaching staff. Since then, the Institute has witnessed steady growth in student enrollment, faculty strength, and overall institutional development. Significant progress has been made in infrastructure, laboratory and library facilities, charitable initiatives, hostel ministry, games and sports, and various academic and co-curricular activities. Today, ACI stands as a beacon of learning, service, and enlightenment for the people of the region.
Philosophy & Vision
Every institution has its own philosophy of service to society. Though a secular institution, ACI is founded on the Christian conviction that every human being is uniquely created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26–27) for a special purpose and that the fear of God is the beginning of knowledge and wisdom (Prov.1:7, Col.2:3). Accordingly, the Institute is committed to nurturing students intellectually, morally, and spiritually, enabling them to discover purpose in life and emerge as responsible and conscientious citizens of society.
